Last night on The X Factor 2012 season 2, the top 16 contestants performed live for USA viewers for the first time. While overall The X Factor 2012 judges Simon Cowell, Britney Spears, L. A. Reid and Demi Lovato heaped on the praise for nearly all of the contestants, not everyone received a glowing response to their performance. One in particular I can’t forget is how nasty Simon Cowell was after hearing L. A. Reid’s Jason Brock. I believe the word “horrible” was in that critique somewhere…

On The X Factor elimination results show tonight, the singers of the top 16 will either find themselves safe or forced to do a ‘sing-off’ for their lives. Those who fail to make the grade will be counted among those who were eliminated on The X Factor USA this week. There is no voting this week, so The X Factor season 2 contestants moving on from this round will be entirely determined by the judges.

Going into the show tonight, here is the current breakdown of the Top 16 finalists and their respective teams:

Team Simon Cowell (groups):

  • Emblem 3 – Drew Chadwick, Keaton Stromberg and Wesley Stromberg
  • 1432 (formerly LYLAS): Ally Brooke, Camila Cabello, Normani Hamilton, Dinah Jane Hansen and Lauren Jauregui
  • Lyric 145 (One4Five & Lyric Da Queen): Julien Joseph, Jemelle Joseph and Lyric-Bianca Barnes
  • Sister C: Carli Rayne Manchaca, Celbi Manchaca and Cirby Ryan Manchaca

Team Demi Lovato (young adults): CeCe Frey, Jennel Garcia

Willie Jones and Paige Thomas

Team L.A. Reid (over-25): Vino Alan, Tate Stevens, Jason Brock and David Correy

Team Britney Spears (teens): Beatrice Miller, Arin Ray, Carly Rose Sonenclar and Diamond White

We’ve recently received reports that a handful of The X Factor 2012 crew and some of the singers were up all night barfing their guts out after getting some bad takeout to their hotel. Among the contestants who ended up with the worst food poisoning, Camilla from 1432 is reportedly on set but still hurling. Drew from Emblem3, however, was so bad off that he has been taken to the hospital for dehydration and may not make it to the show tonight. If he doesn’t, the other two members of Emblem3 will reportedly perform without him if they have to.

To begin the show tonight, each of The X Factor 2012 judges will choose two acts on their teams to declare “safe” for the evening. These two acts will move on to the next round automatically.

Demi Lovato is the first judge up to choose and she announces that Jenell Garcia and Paige Thomas will get a free pass to the next phase of the competition. CeCe Frey and Willie Jones will have to go head to head in a sing-off to determine which of them will be chosen to move on.

Team Demi Lovato:

CeCe Fry – “Out Here On My Own”

Judges: L. A. says CeCe just saved herself with this song. It was great. Britney says she thinks last night CeCe was having an identity crisis, but tonight she pulled it together. Simon wants to know why CeCe didn’t do this song last night because this is the kind of performance that made the judges like her in the first place.

Willie Jones – “You Don’t Know Me”

Judges: L. A. says Willie truly is unique and it was a good performance. He is making it tough to choose. Britney says she thinks Willie reallys tands out and there is a quality about him that makes him unique. Simon says if they could capture what Willie brought to his first audition, he would go very far.

Elimination: Unfortunately, after consideration from the judges, it looks like Willie Jones will be the first person who was eliminated on The X Factor USA tonight.

The next judge to announce their picks to move on to the Top 12 is L. A. Reid with the over-25 group. His choices for the two acts on his team to more forward automatically are… Vino Allan and Tate Stevens. I am depressed over these choices. While Jason Brock did not really shine last night, he has a truly spectacular voice and deserves to go to the next round. Honestly, I think David Correy should have been chosen to be safe as well.

Why do I feel the whole show is geared to make sure none of the over-25 crowd wins this year? From the early elimination of some of the best over-25 contestants, to L. A. Reid’s meltdown over being assigned the group and insulting them to their faces, to Simon Cowell telling the media NO ONE in the over-25 group will win… and now L. A. Reid making bad choices about who to keep safe. This is tweaking me off folks…

Team L. A. Reid:

David Correy – “Since You Been Gone”

Judges: Britney says David blew her away tonight. Demi says she didn’t really like his rendition of the song because it sounded like he was screaming the whole time. Simon says it was kind of melodramatic and overly theatrical, but he can tell how much it means to David.

Jason Brock – “One Moment In Time”

Judges: Britney says she wasn’t sure last night, but she is now a big fan. Demi says she can see Jason really wants to be here and there is something really geniune about him. Simon says he feels like he is being asked to judge between two horses that came in last, but it was a million times better than last night.

Elimination: L. A. Reid decides he is going to keep… Jason Brock. David Correy has been eliminated.

The teen singers on Team Britney Spears are the next to find out who will be safe and who will have to perform in front of the judges again tonight. Britney Spears has a tough choice with this one as all of the singers are quite good in this group. Carly Rose Sonenclar is my favorite, while I think all the rest stack up pretty evenly.

Britney decides she is going to give a pass to… Carly Rose Sonenclar and Beatrice Miller. So Arin Ray and Diamond White will be doing the sing-off.

Team Britney Spears:

Arin Ray – “I Look To You”

Judges: L. A. says he doesn’t even understand why Arin is having to be up there singing for his life. Demi says the girls in the audience are screaming for him and it would be a shame to send him home. Simon says this performance really showed Arin’s potential and it would be a big mistake to send him home.

Diamond White – “Sorry Seems To Be the Hardest Word”

L. A. says Diamond is just sensational and has a big future ahead of her in the music business. Demi says she really took on a different style tonight and it impressed her, she should be proud. Simon says he would not like to be in Britney’s shoes tonight because he’d like to see both go through.

Elimination: In the end, there can be only one and the decision is made to send Diamond White packing.

Simon Cowell is the last judge up tonight to announce the two “safe” acts from his team. For the two groups moving forward with a pass to the next round, Simon Cowell has selected Emblem3 and Lyric145. The two groups going up against each other for the final spot in the The X Factor season 2 Top 12 are Sister C and 1432 (formerly LYLAS).

I’m just going to go ahead right now and guess that 1432 will be moving forward because Simon Cowell is constantly talking about how America is just going to love them. Plus, he really seems way too happy with his ‘created’ groups this season. Although he did, thankfully, send his ‘created’ boy group home previously. So maybe I’m just too cynical. By the way, what the HELL is with all the group names with numbers in them? Can’t people at least have a little more creativity?

Team Simon Cowell:

Sister C – “I Know I’m Not Alone”

Judges: L. A. says everyone struggles with choosing the right songs, but this time they really nailed it. Britney says it was a pleasant surprise and they captured the eye of the tiger. Demi says they sounded phenomenal and are obviously extremely talented.

1432 (formerly LYLAS) –

Judges: L. A. says when the going got tought for this group, they got going and did it. Britney says they made her a believer tonight. Demi says, tongue-in-cheek, that they performed the song better than the original singer.

Elimination: After due consideration, the group that will be moving on in The X Factor season 2 Top 12 is… 1432. Sister C has been eliminated.

However, Simon Cowell HATES the name 1432 (as do I) and he wants to public to submit names for consideration.
