In San Francisco, it was anything but a happy Pride day when a shooting in the Castro District left one dead and several others injured on Saturday night.
A 19-year-old man was killed and two others left injured after a personal dispute turned deadly during a Castro District “Pink Saturday” street party to kick of Gay Pride Weekend in San Francisco.
Shots rang out in the Castro District around 11:30 PM, panicking revelers out celebrating a kickoff street party for San Francisco Gay Pride. Police believe the Castro shootings were the result of a personal dispute and not related to the Gay Pride event.
“This was definitely not a hate crime,” Officer Phil Gordan told the San Francisco Chronicle. “We think they [the shooter and the victim] knew each other.”
Stephen Powell died early Sunday after being shot in the chest during the incident. A 19-year-old woman and a 29-year old man were both shot in the legs, but are expected to survive. An unidentified 19-year-old man suspected of being the shooter was arrested and is currently being held in custody.
The longest serving member of Congress, Democratic Senator Robert Byrd, has been hospitalized in serious condition. A statement released on Sunday said 92-year-old Byrd was still “seriously ill” after being admitted to a Washington area hospital last week.
West Virginia Senator Robert Byrd was originally hospitalized on suspicion of heat exhaustion and severe dehydration and expected to be released within a few days. In a press statement released on Sunday, his office said “other conditions have developed which has resulted in his condition being described as ‘serious.'”
Byrd is currently the longest-serving member of Congress on record, having served more than 57 years. He has been elected to nine terms in the Senate after serving six years in the U.S. House. Byrd has never lost an election. He was previously hospitalized three times in 2009.
Survivor: Borneo winner Richard Hatch was arrested again after appearing on the Today Show on Tuesday. Hatch’s sister, Kristin Hatch, said her brother had permission to do the interview but believes he may have been rearrested for statements he made on the Today Show.
A police official told RadarOnline.com that Hatch was arrested for violating the terms of his house arrest. Richard Hatch was previously convicted on charges of tax evasion involving his million dollar Survivor winnings and received a four year sentence. Hatch’s sister, however, believes her brother was arrested again because of what he said during his Today Show interview.
Speaking to co-host Matt Lauer, Richard Hatch said during the Today Show interview that he believes he was jailed partially because he is gay. “I don’t think you or anyone else can deny that we as homosexuals face discrimination,” Hatch said.
“I heard [police] tell Rich that he did an interview, and that’s why he was going back to prison,” Hatch’s sister during an appearance on the Today Show on Wednesday.
Richard Hatch was taken into custody at his sister’s home in Newport, RI. He is currently being held at the Barnstable County Correctional Facility in Bourne, Mass., according to AccessHollywood.com. Hatch’s lawyer claims the Survivor winner had cleared his appearance on the Today Show with federal authorities before the interview.
An Orlando judge has ordered that photos from indicted-for-murder Casey Anthony’sPhotobucket account can be released to the public, but has delayed release of a video showing Casey’s reaction to the news that her daughter Caylee’s remains had been found.
The pics, showing Casey skanking it up in bars, throwing gang signs, throwing UP, and playing “see food” are many- there are literally hundreds. We’re putting a few up here, and you can find more here at the Orlando Sentinel. Casey’s attorney argued that the pics might make Casey look bad. No worries, Mr. Attorney. Casey took care of that a LONG time ago. Click the pics to enlarge. Classy!
One of the 171 photos released Thursday by investigators shows a slight opening in the brush — and what appears to be a hard-cover book.
On a day filled with developments in the case of missing toddler Caylee Marie Anthony, including news that the man who discovered human remains last week called in the same tip three times in August, a single photograph brought forth as many questions as it answered.
Did investigators searching a wooded area for skeletal remains possibly also find a book that Caylee liked to read?
One of the 171 photos released Thursday by investigators shows a slight opening in the brush, and what appears to be a hard-cover book. To some observers, that object appears similar to a book that Caylee is seen reading on a video made by her grandparents, the last visual evidence of the toddler before she was reported missing in July.
Sheriff’s Capt. Angelo Nieves said he had not seen the crime-scene photos and could not comment on their content. He said he would not ask investigators about the photo.
Forensic results from tests done on the remains are expected to be released at any time.
Photos from the site where remains found thought to be Caylee Anthony’s
Just breaking now, a bombshell twist in the case of missing tot Caylee Anthony. Captain Angelo Nieves of the Orange County Police department revealed that the utility worker who discovered remains in a bag a week ago, called in tips 3 TIMES in August. All of the tips were for the location where he eventually found the skeletal remains. Incredibly, Captain Nieves says that there is nothing suspicious about the worker, and that he is not a person of interest in this case.
Captain Nieves said that they have not even fingerprinted the worker. “He is not a suspect in this case,†Nieves said early Thursday evening. “He is a credible witness and we consider him so at the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.†Last week, the story was, that the worker had gone into the wooded, vacant lot near the Anthony home to relieve himself. Today, the story is that he was “curious”. This case gets stranger and stranger. This man may have no culpability at all in this case, and no accusation of such has been made. But twice, when he called authorities, they responded and the “site was cleared”.
Was this bad work by whomever “cleared” the site? Did this man help Casey Anthony? Is this some other poor little girl’s remains? Was the worker just seeing if anyone had followed up on his tip when he found the remains? This is a densely vegetated site. Still, very, very unusual stuff going on. The defense may have a field day with this, especially since investigators have not allowed them to have any access to the site.
Authorities are expected to release the results of forensic tests on the remains at any time now. New photos of the crime scene are posted here at the Orange County Sheriff’s Website.
Casey Anthony draped in an American Flag at a “No Clothes” party
Orange County Investigators released hundreds MORE documents and media on Friday related to the Casey Anthony case. Casey is the mother of missing 3 year old Caylee Anthony, and is the only person of interest in her disappearance. Among the items released Friday were DVD’s, CD’s and pages and pages of evidence. The information included a taped interview with mom Cindy Anthony, audio interviews with dad George Anthony and many others, photographs, text message and instant messages.
The interview with Simon Burch, supervisor of the tow-lot that towed in the car which Casey abandoned, is very telling. He discusses in detail what happened when parents George and Cindy Anthony came to pick up the car, and the overwhelming odor it had. It was the odor of death that has also been spoken of by Cindy and Casey’s brother Lee. It’s difficult to wade through the hundreds and hundreds of documents released by the authorities, so this is an easier way to read and watch some of the pertinent evidence the investigators have.
Party girl, pathological liar, text addict. The picture of who Casey Anthony really is becomes clearer as one reads through these interviews. Casey’s relationships are, for the most part, quite superficial. She always seems to have at least one guy that she’s using, and has another one lined up to come after him.
Casey’s been in and out of jail 3 times now, and has been charged with economic crimes due to passing checks stolen from her friend Amy. She’s looking at around 70 years in jail for these crimes, if convicted. Snarkista hopes that officials can get to the bottom of what happened to little Caylee, and if Casey’s guilty- as it seems she may be, is finally charged with murder. HERE IS WHERE TO LISTEN TO AUDIO INTERVIEWS RELEASED THURSDAY.
