Now, on to the Dancing With the Stars elimination this week. Heading into the audience voting, we had four celebrities with some pretty low scores looking bad in their first week on the DWTS 2012 dance floor. The lowest ranked celebrities of the week were singer Gavin Degraw, actress Melissa Gilbert, singer Gladys Knight and tennis star Martina Navratilova.
After the audience votes were factored in, two sets of partners were left to face the music as the the lowest ranked couples. Gavin DeGraw and Karina Smirnoff, who have admitted they need to “step it up,” and Martina Navratilova and Tony Dovolani.
Let’s face it, Gavin DeGraw and Karina Smirnoff were not great on the dance floor to say the least. Martina Navratilova and Tony Dovolani, however, were just criminal. The tennis pro may have the right moves on the court, but she had all the wrong moves on the dance floor. Apparently the Dancing With the Stars 2012 judges and the voting audience agreed, and the two were sent home.
“I’m devastated for Tony because he put in so much hard work,” Martina told E! Online. “He hasn’t had great partners in the past. He wanted an athlete, he got an athlete, but an athlete blew it yesterday. We couldn’t make up with the popular vote for the judging yesterday.”
“It was an amazing experience. I just wish it could have lasted longer,” Navratilova said following the elimination. “I wish everybody great luck.”
As for Gavin DeGraw, he’s just grateful he didn’t collapse in the middle of his routine. “Had I known it was going to be that stressful and I was going to have that many palpitations, I would’ve taken an aspirin before I went out there onstage,” he told E! Online. “I felt it. It was like an aspirin commercial up there. That mixed in with a little indigestion. It got scary. I was watching my dance career flash before my eyes!”
