During a press conference held on Bret Michaels’ condition today, his doctor said the former Poison front man is “talking and he is talking very well. He is mentally aware of what is going on.” Micheals is still, however, “very sick right now” and will need time to return to full health.

“He is improving and I expect he would continue to gradually improve,” Dr. Joseph Zabramski, chief of cerebrovascular surgery at the Barrow Neurological Institute said. “It takes about an additional seven to 10 days before his blood will completely resolve and he will really begin to feel like he is on the mend and can resumes all of his activities.”

Bret Michaels is very lucky, Zabramski said at the press conference. “I really expect that he will fortunately make a 100 percent recovery,” Zabramski said. “He’s just one of those lucky people – 10 to 20 percent who make a complete recovery and can resume all of their normal activities.”

Michaels does still have some trouble walking and suffers severe back pain. He will continue to be monitored and treated by doctors over the next few months.

In a radio interview with the Todd n Tyler Radio Empire show on Monday, Bret Michaels’ sister, Michelle Sychak, said her brother was “definitely doing better – he was kind of getting up and starting to walk a bit… because they don’t want the blood to clot.”

Bret Michaels has been in intensive care at the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix since he suffered a brain hemorrhage on April 22. Michaels’ doctors credit the former Poison front man’s “sheer will to live and fully recover” for his survival and progress so far. Sychak says Michaels still has issues he has to overcome on the road to recovery, however.

“What’s happening is all that blood in his brain is starting to drain, and he’s starting to have a lot of back pain,” Sychak says. Even so, Sychak says her brother is eager to get out of the hospital and back to his life.

Bret Michaels’ reps are hopeful about the singer’s rapid recovery, planning for him to return to touring as early as May 26. It has been speculated Michaels might also be well enough to attend the live Celebrity Apprentice finale on May 23. Michaels’ sister remains optimistic, but cautions that her brother isn’t ready to get back to business just yet.

“Obviously, if he’s up and moving, that’s great, but honestly it’s not going to surprise me if he’s still in the ICU on Friday,” she says. “I think [the doctors are] having a problem really getting the bleeding. … Even though they’ve sort of caught it, I think there are some issues with them really stopping and figuring out the source. That’s why [there’s] back pain.”

Michaels’ doctors have scheduled a press conference for 12 PM on Tuesday to discuss his condition and prognosis.

Wally Sychak, Bret Michaels’ father, told CBS 21 News that he has spoken to his son and is hopeful he is on the way to a full recovery. “I’ve been in turmoil whether to go or not go [to see him in the hospital], but I’ve talked to him three times and he always sounds like he’ll be getting out any time,” Sychak said.

The last time he talked to Michaels, Sychak said the former Poison front man spoke of returning to touring by the end of the month. There is also speculation Bret Michaels might be well enough to appear on the Celebrity Apprentice live finale on May 23.

TMZ.com, meanwhile, reports a source close to Michaels says the singer turned reality TV star is having “amazing” progress in his recovery from the brain hemorrhage that could have ended his life. Michaels was reportedly “in a good mood” over the weekend and “somewhat talkative.”

A press conference to update fans and the media on Bret Michaels’ condition and prognosis is expected to be held on Tuesday.

Bret Michaels Condition Improved Enough for Celebrity Apprentice Finale?

Bret Michaels‘ condition could be improved enough for the former Poison front man to appear on the finale of Celebrity Apprentice. Michaels is still currently undergoing treatment at the Barrow Neurological Institute at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Phoenix, AZ after suffering a massive brain hemorrhage just over a week ago.

Michaels was admitted to the hospital on April 22 with extreme head pain and diagnosed with a subarachnoid hemorrhage, a type of stroke that causes bleeding at the base of the brain. The former Poison front man had undergone emergency appendectomy surgery just before the hemorrhage and is also a lifelong diabetes sufferer. Doctors are still not sure what caused the brain hemorrhage or whether it may have been related to the surgery or his diabetes.

Bret Michaels’ condition reportedly continues to improve, although his neurologist, Dr. Joseph Zabramski, says he is still dealing with “roadblocks” in his recovery – including cranial and back pain from blood drainage and hyponatremia. Hyponatremia is a lack of sodium in the body which can lead to seizures.

Michaels’ medical team has reportedly stated the Celebrity Apprentice star could be well enough to return to touring by the end of the month. He may also be able to attend the live finale of Celebrity Apprentice, according to the latest reports.

Reps for Michaels will be holding a press conference at 12pm on Tuesday to update fans and the media about the rocker’s condition, treatment and prognosis.
