Celebrities try to blackmail us into donating money

Here’s another bizarre publicity stunt set to draw attention to a good cause – Kim and Khloe Kardashian, Alicia Keys, Lady Gaga, and Justin Timberlake are going to cease all Twitter and Facebook activity starting Wednesday, as a “digital death” gimmick to promote World AIDS Day.

The plan is that they will not return to their online lives until a million dollars has been raised for Keep a Child Alive.  The campaign features images of the stars posing as dead people in coffins, in a cheesy attempt to lend a visual element to the digital death theme.  I might be more inclined to donate if they promised to stop doing these cheap stunts, or if donating would keep them off the internet for longer intervals.

Janet Jackson goes gaga on Larry King

Janet Jackson was interviewed by Larry King recently, and when asked about her favorite current musicians, she listed Lady Gaga first and foremost.  Jackson said all the predictable things about Gaga being talented and innovative and fashion-forward, and also added that Gaga reminds her of a modern-day Grace Jones, constantly pushing boundaries.

Jackson claims that she met Gaga and knew her on a personal level before Gaga even got a recording contract, and that Jackson knew from the beginning that this was the start of something big.  Jackson says that Lady Gaga is something different for today’s music market, but I remember back in the ’80s when she was original and attractive and named Madonna.

Everyone going Gaga over the meat dress

Days after the MTV Video Music Awards, people are still talking about Lady Gaga’s meat dress.  And of course, that’s exactly why she wore it.  I’ve heard explanations ranging from “it’s a statement about the hypocrisy of meat-eating” to “it’s a statement about the world’s attitude toward women,” but really I think it’s just a statement about Lady Gaga’s desperate need for everyone to look at her.  She’d wear a disease-ridden raccoon around her neck if her publicist told her it would turn more heads.

I’m curious as to what happened to that meat after the VMAs were over – do you think she just hung the dress outside and waited for the vultures to come and devour it?  Actually, that’s mean, I shouldn’t talk about the paparazzi that way.  But it’ll be interesting to see what Gaga has to do next to get the cameras turned her way.  I’m hearing a lot of talk about how innovative she is – am I the only one who thinks these obvious ploys for attention are just a little pathetic?

Peaches and… meat?

In a somewhat snarky moment of her own, Peaches Geldof (model and daughter of Sir Bob Geldof) made some comments on Twitter regarding Lady Gaga‘s recent Vogue Hommes Japan cover image.  In the photo, Gaga is is wearing a meatkini – a bikini made entirely from meat.  Geldof admitted that she thought the meatkini would be fun, though she feared that if she wore one on the beach, birds might peck at it.

After giving the matter some more thought, Geldof later considered the barbecuing possibilities: “if I wore a meatkini in the sun, it would cook on my skin. Meatkini + sun = steak, medium rare. Just pick off and enjoy.”

I think they probably already have websites for that sort of thing.

Jerry Seinfeld Hates Lady Gaga

Two weeks after Lady Gaga flipped off the world at large during a Mets vs Yankees game, Jerry Seinfeld is slamming the pop star for being “a jerk.” Seinfeld ended up with Lady Gaga in his box after her now infamous vulgar finger display and he’s definitely not a fan.

“This woman is a jerk. I hate her,” Jerry Seinfeld said in an interview with WFAN radio. “I can’t believe they put her in my box, which I paid for.”

Barely dressed in a bra, panties and a half-open Yankees jersey, Lady Gaga was moved to Seinfeld’s box after wielding her middle fingers against photographers and the opposing team. Gaga was reportedly pissed at being seated too close to a gaggle of photographers,

Seinfeld, meanwhile, was not very pleased at having Lady Gaga moved to his box.

“You give people the finger and you get upgraded? Is that the world we’re living in now?” he said… “I don’t know what these young people think or how they promote their careers,” Seinfeld said. “I wish her the best. You take one ‘A’ off of that and you’ve got gag.”

As for Lady Gaga, her response to the flap over her rude gestures was simple. “A middle finger is more New York than a corporate ambush. I bleed for my hometown, and I’d die for my fans.”

Katy Perry Slams Lady Gaga Alejandro Video

Katy Perry is slamming Lady Gaga over the eclectic star’s new “Alejandro” music video. The “Alejandro video features Lady Gaga performing in a latex nun’s habit with the image of a cross plastered over her groin.

Katy Perry, whose parents are Christian pastors, apparently takes issue with Lady Gaga’s use of religious imagery in the “Alejandro” video. In the video, Lady Gaga also sucks and deep throats a string of rosary beads before being stripped and humped by a bunch of half-naked men.

“Using blasphemy as entertainment is as cheap as a comedian telling a fart joke,” Perry Tweeted to her fans on Tuesday. Well, we know plenty of guys out there who are quite fond of fart jokes actually.

Plus, this criticism comes from a woman who just released a video for “California Gurls” in which frosting jets from her breasts. That may not be blasphemous in a religious sense, but it certainly violates all the covenants of good taste.
