WARNING: THE VOICE 2012 SEASON 3 SPOILERS AHEAD!
This post contains The Voice 2012 season 3 spoilers from the first battle round. Please stop reading here if you do not want to know what happened!
Last week on The Voice season 3, the battle rounds began and singers began falling like dominoes. The face to face duets are brutal and some truly great talents were unfortunately cut last week when they just couldn’t outshine their duet opponents. Thankfully, with the invention of the ‘steal’ for The Voice 2012 season 3, a few of those singers who were cut from their teams got a second chance. Collin McLoughlin (Team Adam), Amanda Brown (Team CeeLo) and Caitlin Michelle (Team Adam) were all singers that deserved to be saved and thankfully were, courtesy of the new ‘steal’ twist.
Of course, every singer one of The Voice 2012 judges decides to steal means one less spot left to save another contestant. So at some point it is just going to happen that a great singer is going to lose out in a battle and have no where left to go. That’s the name of the game though and we can only hope it won’t be one of our favorites who was eliminated on The Voice season 3 this week.
Who went home on The Voice season 3 this week? Who was sadly eliminated, but then happily stolen for another team? Find out with us here in our live The Voice 2012 season 3 recap at 8PM ET!
Performers: Julio Cesar Castillo and Theresa Griffin (Team Blake) – “Conga” by Gloria Estefan
The first duet tonight comes from Julio Cesar Castillo and Theresa Griffin of Team Blake. They are performing “Conga” by Gloria Estefan. Theresa thinks Julio has the advantage with this song and wants to know why Blake paired her with him on this song. Blake tells her he wanted a strong battle and thought they would deliver. Julio feels intimidated by Theresa, but Blake wants him to know he has just as much talent.
Judges: Christina just doesn’t know what to say about these two. CeeLo thought it was a cool performance and he loved Theresa’s enthusiasm. Adam says Blake outdid himself with these two but he would have to go with Julio.
Winner: Julio Castillo
Steal: CeeLo uses his steal and takes Theresa for his team.
Performers: Dez Duron and Paulina (Team Christina) – “Just The Way You Are” by Bruno Mars
Now up we have Paulina and Dez Duron from Team Christina. They are going to perform “Just The Way You Are.” Dez thinks the song is challenging and Christina thinks he is pushing it too hard. Paulina is struggling to stay on pitch and Christina wants to make sure she articulates.
Judges: CeeLo says he thinks Dez was the total package in the performance, although he really likes Paulina too. Adam thought both performances had issues, but he would go for Dez of the two. Blake thinks Dez has really grown so far and he won this battle with the experience he’s gained.
Winner: Dez Duron
Steal: None of the judges use the steal to save Paulina. She is going home.
Performers: Benji and Sam James (Team Adam) – “You Give Love A Bad Name” – Bon Jovi
Benji and Sam James from Team Adam are the next two singers to go head to head. They are performing “You Give Love A Bad Name” by Bon Jovi. Adam wants to hear Benji roar, but just not all the time. Sam is uncomfortable with the song as it doesn’t really suit him.
Judges: Blake thinks Sam did a good job, but Benji did it better. Christina says she thinks Benji has a little Adam going on with his voice. She loves Sam and his confidence on stage, but she thinks Benji took it. CeeLo thinks Benji has the better range and he was adventorous with his voice. He thinks Benji won. Adam thinks Benji has a great scream, but he lacks control.
Winner: In kind of a surprise move, Adam decides to choose Sam over Benji.
Steal: And none of the judge steal Benji. Ouch.
Performers: Nicholas David and Todd Kressler (Team CeeLo) – “She’s Gone” by Daryl Hall & John Oates
Nicholas and Todd banter that CeeLo picked the two of them because they both have beards. CeeLo picks “She’s Gone” by Hall & Oates because they both have soul. Nicholas says it is hard to compete against someone he likes and respects. Todd knows he has to find something inside of himself that will make him the winner against Nicholas.
Judges: Adam thought it was a terrific performance and they sounded great together. Blake thought Todd had a great voice and Nicholas was amazning and looks like Jesus. Christina thought Todd was really good, but she truly likes Nicholas’ style. CeeLo says Nicholas moves him but he appreciates Todd as well.
Winner: Nicholas David
Steal: No one used the steal to save Todd Kessler. That’s a shame.
Performers: Lelia and Suzanna Choffel – “The Dog Days Are Over” by Florence and the Machine
Lilia Broussard and Suzanna Choffel are the next two up from Team Blake. Suzanna feels nervous about the song choice and how rehearsals went. Blake tells her she will be shine, just shake it off.
Judges: Christina says she thought it was a great match and a beautiful performance. CeeLo says he thinks they both deserve to be in the competition and have talent. Adam says he wishes he had Suzanna on his team, so he has to choose her as the winner. Blake is torn.
Winner: Suzanna Choffel
Steal: No one uses the steal to save Lilia Broussard.
Performers: Joselyn Rivera and Sylvia Yacoub – “Best Thing I Never Had” by Beyonce
Joselyn has to struggle to find the power level for her voice and can’t push it too hard trying to make her softer voice heard. Slyvia needs to make sure she is on the song and doesn’t get sloppy or overdo it.
Judges: CeeLo says both ladies impressed him. Adam thought it was great all around, but he’d choose Joselyn as the winner. Blake says Sylvia sings with an “I’ll kick your ass” attitude and Joselyn sings with a smile. CeeLo says he would pick Sylvia. Christina says she thinks Sylvia was on fire and Joselyn was a bit “deer in the headlights.”
Winner: Sylvia Yacoub
Steal: Both Adam and Blake try to steal Joselyn. She decides to choose Team Adam. Blake’s poor little country heart is broken.
